The Pirates jumped out like usual on the Cudas only to give up the lead and the game when the Cudas came roaring back.  The Pirates played the worst defensive game of the year with 7 errors in the field.

Working short handed, the Rangers came to play with help from the White Sox pitching staff.  With little effort, the Pirates put the Rangers in thier place once again.  This time it was behind the pitching of Ben....  On the offensive side, Jose Cueto hit for the cycle with a dominating performance at the plate...

In the second game of the twin bill, the mighty Randy Rankin demanded the ball to start the game.  After catching in 100 degree heat for 7 innings, Randy showed his toughness by opening with 2 solid innings on the hill.  The Pirates batters jumped out early on a carousel of Hogs pitchers, scoring 7 in the first 2 innings.  the hogs battled back after a 3rd inning HR that got them within 2, but the Pirates kept up the pressure and secured the win another 7 runs.

With the final meeting between Smith and the Hogs, the rematch favored Smith once again.  Only allowing one hit on a flare over 3B, Smith dominated the game as usual.  Pirate batters struggled to get it going, but eventually wore down the Hogs pitcher in the 6th and scored 4 runs mostly due to a 3 run home run.  With that effort, the Pirates secured the win and prepared for the second game.

By the second half of the twin bill, the Pirates were eager to unload.  Having a near full roster in the dugout, the second game marked the first appearance of Manwiller and second games for Marshall and "Country" Kelly.  The Pirates batted 15 in the top of the first off the Aardvarks ace and former Missouri stalwart.  The 10 run lead was enough to take all fight out of the Aardvarks.  Country took out the pistol and went varmint hunting, mowing down the Aardvark batters in E. Smith fashion...  The game ended in 3 after a mercy rule was applied.

The Pirates, lead by Smith, controlled teh Aardvarks from the very beginning.  Scattering 4 hits on the day, Smith was up to the standard and dominated the opposing hitters.  His only scored runs were due to the Pirates stellar defense.  Offensively, the Pirates were lead by a half-ass Cueto.  Following a heat stroke which has taken its toll, Jose was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI's.

Following the solid opening game, the Pirates jumped out 3 - 0 int he first of the second game.  The Rangers were limited on pitching and the game quickly turned as the Pirates scored 6 in the second...  The game was finished after a couple Ranger injuries...

With Eric Smith back on the bump, the Pirates controlled the game from the beginning.  The Pirates scored 3 runs in the first and never looked back.  Eric only allowed 2 hits and one of which was on poor effort by an anonymous right fielder.  Eric finished with 12 K's on 6 innings pitched.  Eric lead the team in hitting going 3 for 3 with 2 doubles.

After the lack luster effort in the opener, the Pirates squeezed out a dramatic 1 run win in the bottom of the 7th.  The Pirates jumped out to a 3-0 lead but gradually gave it up by the 6th.  Needing a run to stay alive, Chris Williams singled with 2 outs to tie the game 4-4.  The Pirates held the Hogs in the top of the 7th after the first 2 runners reach base.  And a sick Jose Cueto re-entered the game after spending 5 innings laying in the grass, laying in the truck, and hugging the trash can and doubled the game winning run.

The Hogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a first inning home run off Underhill.  The Pirates tied the game 2-2 in the top of the third, only to melt down in the bottom of the third giving up 4 runs on 2 hits.  The Hogs never looked back and cruised to victory.

Following Smith's perfect game, the Pirates looked to keep the momentum, however a 2 out monster blast off Underhill in the top of the 1st, gave the Aardvarks a 1-0 lead.  But the Pirates countered with 4 runs in the bottom of the inning.  The first 4 Pirate batters hit safely with consecutive doubles by Driscoll and Smith followed by a triple from Cueto.  The offense continued to roll in the second with five more runs and the Pirates never looked back.

The story of the game was Eric Smith's perfect game.  Continuing to dominate, Eric controlled the Aardvark batters from the very beginning.  With 12 K's and no blemishes, Smith allowed the Pirate hitters to do their work in peace.  The Pirate offense was helped with 13 passed balls by Aardvark catchers.  The Pirate runners were looking to advance on every pitch.  This allowed the run rule to take effect ending after only 5 innings.

The Pirates jumped on the Rangers early after Underhill surrendered a first inning run.  After the 10 runs in the second, any wind left in the Rangers sail was taken in the 3rd and 4th innings with 6 and 8 runs respectively.  The lone highlight for the Rangers was a monster blast hit in the 3rd that landed somewhere in the field behind the ballpark.  The game was ended early due to the time limit.

Coming out of the gate, the Pirates looked to carry the momentum of the first game, but the Hogs got to Cueto in the 3rd with a 3 run home run, and some rusty fielding. Randy Rankin came in for the Pirates to try and stop the bleeding, but ran into some walks in the 4th that compounded the issues for the Pirates. But once Randy settled in, he K'd 5 of the last 13 batters he faced. It was just too late for the Pirates.

The Pirates jumped out 2-0 behind solid pitching from Eric Smith. After a rain delay and wet conditions, the Hogs scrapped 2 runs in the 4th. Underhill came in for the pirates and held the Hogs till the Pirate offense found 2 runs behind Smith's clutch hitting. Pirates found their first win of the season!
